Edward MacDowell(1861-1908) was the first American composer to achieve international prominence. He was a masterful tone colourist and was especially fond of the music of Grieg. Sandra Carlock was the first artist ever to perform MacDowell's music at the prestigious summer series at the former home of Grieg in Bergen, Norway. The Bergen Press dubbed MacDowell "America's Grieg"!
